Wir begrüßen Sie zur fünften Ausgabe von „Spotlighting Museums”, in der Sie eine Einladung zur Zusammenarbeit mit Graham Black erhalten.
Sie erinnern sich: Im April 2019 luden wir erstmals, damals gemeinsam mit der Hamburger Kulturbehörde, Hamburger Museumsfachleute zu einer Veranstaltung „Das relevante Museum“ ein. Den Auftaktvortrag hielt Graham Black, Emeritus Professor of Museum Development von der Nottingham Trent University.
Anfang 2021 erschien sein Buch „Museums and the Challenge of Change. Old Institutions in a New World“, das dritte Werk einer Trilogie.
Woran arbeitet Graham Black aktuell?
Wir baten Ivana Scharf, Expertin für Outreach in Museen, die unser Programm „Das relevante Museum“ in 2020 kuratierte und moderierte, einmal nachzufragen.
In dem Gespräch verrät Graham Black uns, wer seine „Change Maker“ sind und was sie anders machen.
Zentral ist aktuell auch seine kollaborativ entwickelte Veröffentlichung, die erfahrene, internationale Museumskennerinnen und -kenner mit Praxisbeispielen verbindet.

Dieses Zitat von Graham Black verrät im Kern, worum es in diesem Audio-Beitrag geht. Prof. Graham Black blickt auf 48 Jahre Arbeit mit und in Museen zurück. Sein Lebensweg führt ihn von der Feldarchäologie, weiter als Kurator in Museen, hin zur Leitung des Nottingham Castle Museum, wonach er sich dann für die Freiberuflichkeit als Museumsberater entschied. Ab 1994 wirkte er zusätzlich als Senior Lecturer an der Nottingham Trent University, wo er 2006 eine forschungsorientierte Position annahm und schließlich 2014 zum Professor für Museum Development ernannt wurde. Erfahren Sie in diesem Gespräch, wie seine Arbeit mit seinen Wurzeln verbunden ist, wie aus seiner Sicht Museen den Wandel anführen können und welche die dringendsten Aufgaben sind.

We welcome you to our fifth edition of "Spotlighting Museums", where you will be invited to collaborative writing with Graham Black.
You remember, in April 2019, we invited Hamburg museum experts to a "Relevant Museum" event for the first time, then together with the Department of Culture and Media of Hamburg. Keynote Speaker was Professor Graham Black from Nottingham Trent University.
At the beginning of 2021, he published his book "Museums and the Challenge of Change. Old Institutions in a New World", the third work of a trilogy.
What is Graham Black currently working on?
We invited Ivana Scharf, expert on outreach in museums, who moderated and curated our program "Relevant Museum" in 2020, to ask him.
In the interview, Graham tells us, who his "change makers" are and what they do differently.
His present publication is collaboratively developed and brings experienced, international museum experts with best practice together. This quote from Graham Black essentially reveals what this audio post is about. Professor Graham Black looks back on 48 years of working with and in museums. His career has taken him from field archaeology to working as a museum curator to the position of director of Nottingham Castle Museum, after which he decided to work as a freelance Interpreter for museums. From 1994 he additionally worked as a Senior Lecturer at Nottingham Trent University, where in 2006 he was promoted to Reader, a research-focused position in UK universities, and was finally appointed Professor of Museum Development in 2014.
In this conversation, learn how his work is linked to his roots, how he believes museums can lead the change and what the most urgent tasks are.
